Centrifuge (2018)

Centrifuge is about mass and gravity, objects and space. Each instrument has its own mass and pulls on the others. Some exert more force than others, continually pulling voices back to a center. This gravity creates an internal motion within the ensemble that in turn produces the slow, heavy motion of the full group. We see the internal motion articulated by a synchronized light bulb array on stage and simultaneously feel the weight of stasis and the force of motion. The end of the piece presents a shift in object-space relationships, as the role of light changes the focus of attention.
