Instruments, Circuits, & Electro-Experiments

I build instruments and circuits that frequently act as their own interactive compositions. Usually, I build these things for myself as part of my own solo performance practice. But sometimes, I build them for other people/ensembles as part of a commission for a new composition. I have built versions of the electro-objects you see here for artists including the SPLICE Ensemble, Popebama, and Doug Nottingham. When I build these things for other people, the inclusion of the physical item is always integral to the piece. But it also feels like an electro-mystical form of gift-giving, and it makes me think about composition as gift-giving in general. And then, all of this makes me think of one of my favorite Yoko Ono works, Tape Piece III. Contact me if you’re interested in getting your hands on any of these objects.
